Webcam and microphone test
Check that your camera and microphone work before you start a video chat. Everything runs in your browser: nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.

Not working?
Read our fixes for a camera that is not working or a microphone that is not working.
How the test works
The test asks your browser for access to your camera and microphone, shows the live video and a sound level meter, and never sends anything to a server. Close the tab and access stops.
If the test fails
- Click the camera icon in the address bar and choose Allow.
- Close Zoom, Teams, Skype or other apps using the camera.
- On Mac: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera / Microphone.
- On Windows: Settings > Privacy > Camera / Microphone.
- On iPhone: Settings > Safari > Camera and Microphone.
- On Android: Settings > Apps > your browser > Permissions.
Tips for better video
- Face a window or lamp so light falls on your face.
- Put the camera at eye level.
- Use headphones to prevent echo.
- Close downloads and streams that use bandwidth.
Why test before you chat
On random video chat, people decide in seconds whether to stay. A black screen, a dark face or a silent microphone gets you skipped before you say a word. Two minutes with this test saves a lot of frustration, and it also tells you whether a problem is on your side or on the platform's side.
Frequently asked questions
Is my video recorded?
No. The test runs locally in your browser and uploads nothing.
Why does my browser not ask for permission?
You may have blocked it before. Reset the permission via the icon in the address bar.
Does the test work on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari. Allow camera and microphone when asked, or enable them in Settings > Safari.
Why does the sound meter not move?
Check that the right microphone is selected in your browser and system settings, and that it is not muted.
