Methodology
How we test video chat platforms
We separate hands-on testing from desk research and date every check. Where information is unknown, we say so instead of guessing.
What we check
- Guest access
- Cost model and current prices
- Gender and other filters
- Onboarding requirements
- Mobile browser and app behaviour
- Key limitations
- Age, moderation and data policies
How we label evidence
- Hands-on: tested by us, with device and date.
- Provider claim: stated by the platform, not independently verified.
- Unknown: not yet confirmed. Never shown as a positive result.
Keeping records current
Records are rechecked when terms or pricing change, and every page shows when it was last checked.
Our test procedure
- Open the platform in a clean browser on desktop and on a phone.
- Try guest access and record what is available without an account.
- Create an account with a fresh email and note what data is required.
- Check the pricing page and the prices shown during use, including the gender filter.
- Test report and block tools and read the age and moderation rules.
- Read the privacy policy on recordings, data sharing and deletion.
- Cancel any trial or subscription and note how easy that is.
What we record
For every test we record the date, the tester, the device and browser, and the result for each of our seven checks: guest access, cost model, gender filter, onboarding, mobile, limits and policies. We also note pros and cons. Results that change are retested and redated.
What we never do
We do not accept payment for better scores, we do not publish results we did not observe, and we do not copy numbers from a platform's marketing into our verdict.
Retesting
Tests are repeated when a platform changes its prices or features.
Devices and conditions
We test on a recent desktop browser and on both iPhone and Android, over a normal home connection, in US evening hours when most users are online. That gives a realistic picture of matching speed and video quality for our main audience.
