What to expect

Both sides need a working camera and microphone and must allow browser access. On some platforms cam-to-cam is free; on others, two-way video is only available with paid minutes or a subscription.

• Never share your full name, address, workplace or social media handles with strangers.
• Assume anything shown on camera can be recorded by the other person.
• Leave and report immediately if someone appears to be under 18 or pressures you.
• Never send money or gift cards to someone you met on a video chat.

What cam to cam means

Cam to cam, or C2C, means both people have their camera on, as opposed to one-way streaming where only one side is visible. On random chat sites it is the default. On some one-on-one sites you can choose whether to turn your own camera on, sometimes at a different price.

Privacy on cam to cam

Once your camera is on, the other person can capture what they see. Legitimate platforms prohibit recording in their terms, but they cannot technically prevent a screen recording. Keep your face and surroundings in mind, and do not do anything on camera you would not want saved.
