• Is there a gender or country filter, and is it free or paid?
• Are there visible reporting and blocking tools and a clear 18+ policy?
• Does it work in your mobile browser, or does it push you to install an app?

Why apps needs its own shortlist

Mobile apps bring notifications and smoother video, but also permissions, in-app purchases and app-store pricing. A good video chat app is transparent about all three and offers the same safety tools as the website.

How we score platforms for this list

Every platform is tested with the same procedure: guest access, sign-up data, pricing including the gender filter, mobile use, age rules, moderation tools and privacy policy. For this list we weigh the criteria above most heavily. A platform only appears once we have tested it and dated the result.
